The Colac community is being asked to vote on whether Colac Show Day should remain as a public holiday, instead of Melbourne Cup Day.
Friday of the Colac Show has been a public holiday for local residents for many years, with Mayor Chris Potter describing it as “one of the shire’s most significant events.”
“The Colac Show is a great event for the whole family, and celebrates our rich heritage as an agricultural area,” he said.
But given flexibility by the State Government, the Colac Otway Shire Council is seeking advice from local residents, on whether it should remain a public holiday for the next four years.
People can provide feedback via an online survey www.surveymonkey.com/r/MelbCupHoliday or on the Council’s website www.colacotway.vic.gov.au/Community-consultations/Colac-public-holiday.
Feedback closes midnight, 13 January 2017.
