An independent review into Parks Victoria’s credit card usage will be undertaken in order to monitor the organisation’s transactions over the last four years.
Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio has ordered the review, which will be completed by an external auditor.
“Due to the large number of credit card transactions and credit cards available to Parks Victoria staff, I’ve sought the independent audit to ensure proper governance processes are in place and that taxpayers money is being used appropriately,” she said.
The Minister has already requested Parks Victoria implement a process to reduce the number of credit cards in current use, and is urging them to find better strategies for purchasing items in bulk.
“It’s vital that Victorians have full confidence that statutory authorities are complying with best practice standards, are working in an efficient and responsible manner, and are always using taxpayer money appropriately,” she said.
The independent review will ensure Parks Victoria’s credit card systems are meeting best practice standards, and provide recommendations for improvement in the future.
