Minor Flooding for the Murray

The State Emergency Service (SES) is advising people that flows in the River Murray remain high.

If this affects you, please read following statement:

“Predicted water levels are likely to cause minor flooding in the shack areas between Cadell and Mannum.

The flow rate at Lock 1 is approximately 81 GL/day and is expected to decrease to around 75 GL/day during the coming week.

The peak flow is expected to reach the shack areas this week.

A table showing the predicted date of the peak at a number of locations in the area of concern is available on the SES website at www.ses.sa.gov.au.

Shack areas that are likely to be impacted in coming weeks include Walker Flat and Bowhill.

Shack areas currently impacted are Morgan, Brenda Park, Scotts Creek and South Punyelroo with flooding occurring to some low lying properties.

Owners of shacks in these locations should follow their Emergency Flood Plan now.

•Prepare your family and property for flooding in these areas and move items of value to a safe place.
•Never walk, ride or drive through floodwater, including water affected causeways.

•Regularly monitor river levels in your local area to avoid becoming isolated by floodwaters.

River users and visitors are advised to:

•Be aware that large debris may be carried downstream and may pose a hazard to water based activities.
•Stay away from the banks, if travelling on the water, to avoid submerged structures such as jetties or benches and keep boat wash to a minimum to avoid putting river bank properties at risk.
•Camp on higher ground away from the river bank.
