The Mannum Visitor Information Centre is encouraging people to hire bikes as a great way to enjoy the town’s river scenery.
Bike hire is now available at the Centre 7 days a week, with a 25% off discount for residents of the Mid Murray Council.
The joint project between the Mid Murray Opal and the Mannum Dock Museum and Mayor Dave Burgess, came about as a way to boost cycling numbers in the region.
“Taking a bike ride is an opportunity to explore the many amazing attractions on offer in our own backyard.
“This project demonstrates the strength of what local partnerships can achieve in our community whilst encouraging visitor to cycle around our town and region.
“The Mannum Peddlewheelers are a great example of our community getting together in friendship and fitness and I hope to see many more community members gain their confidence through hiring a bike at the centre,” he said.
Amy Loechel, Opal Program Manager said Mid Murray Opal are proud to support this bike hire scheme and the health of the community.
“Research shows that people are more comfortable cycling in their community, when they see other people doing the same thing – so the bike hire scheme is just another way to get more people using an active travel alternative and avoiding increased car use.
“Cycling not only offers well-known cardiovascular health benefits for people of all ages, but is also a great way to see our beautiful community close-up.
“By cycling or walking through Mannum you experience things close up, and you can access areas that vehicles cannot – so it’s great for tourism and even better for local businesses,” she said.
Half or full day bike hire is available from the Mannum Visitor Information Centre, with a selection of adult and children’s bicycles and helmets available.
