Hazelwood Puts Power Back in the Woods

The announcement by Engie that it intends to close the Hazelwood coal fired power station in the Gippsland leaving Victoria with just three Coal Fire Power Stations has consumers across Victoria and South Australia worried about future outages.

Victoria is moving its power share to a greater reliance on renewables but the experience in South Australia should provide the Andrews Government with evidence that it must not take lightly the role of Coal and Gas in providing base load power.

Engie, the operator at Hazelwood says the closure is likely to occur in March 2017.
