Budget Chaos

Treasurer Scott Morrison can’t take a trick.

It looks as if the omnibus savings bill will go nowhere, leaving him with a $4 billion hole in his savings.

There is a solution: as Angus Taylor has pointed out the government could save $27 billion by reducing transaction costs.

This change is currently being resisted by some political parties and sections of the media on the basis that it is an imposition on the vulnerable.

So at the moment the opposition to budget repair comprises not only resistance to cuts in entitlements but also cuts in the cost of providing those entitlements.
